Master’s Thesis 2015 – Ball State University.
Being considered the ninth art form, comic is the very young one in the art family. Comic is characterized by its weaving of drawing/visual elements with storytelling techniques; this unique character provides a very powerful mean to communicate contents/ideas. It allows simply representing of complex issues and it makes the content accessible to wider range of audience.
As a medium, comic has been used in literature of many disciplines. In architecture, we all know about “Archigram” by Peter Cook and his group. More recently, there are “Yes is more” by Bjarke Jingles; “Citizens of no place” by Jimenez Lai among many other notable architectural graphic novels. My thesis explores the possibilities and attempts to apply the comic narrative principles in both architectural design and architectural representation processes.
